Off Our Backs

This is a re-design of a self-described radical feminist news journal. My main concerns were injecting some radical energy into the publication, providing some consistency in the typography, and diversifying the content. I added new sections including letters, news commentary, a news section that includes multiple short news stories of special interest to feminists, book and music reviews, and classifieds. The most unusual section is called One Woman's Journal. Jumping off the tenet that the personal is political, and the fact that
I enjoy seeing into someone else's world and how they think about things,
this section features four or so spreads of a woman's sketchbook. This woman also illustrates the section dividers in the magazine. This adds illustration to the journal as well as giving each issue's illustration a distinct identity. Considering that this is put out by a collective of feminists who can't spend too much on printing, I proposed a two color printing job. For variety and to keep that energy high, one color is to change in each subsequent issue, and one is to stay the same.
